At Betharbel Foundation Free Elementary School for IDPs in Durumi, Abuja, we witness daily the resilience of children who have endured displacement and uncertainty. Many of our pupils were forced to flee their homes due to insecurity, leaving behind not just possessions, but familiarity, stability, and sometimes even dreams.
Recently, hope arrived in a practical and powerful form.
We are deeply grateful to Soladero for partnering with us by donating solar school bags to three of our pupils:
Rintap Ali – displaced from Plateau State
Mercy Nuhu – displaced from Bauchi State
Queen Moses – displaced from Kaduna State
These children, now beneficiaries at Betharbel Foundation, represent thousands of displaced children across Nigeria whose access to education is often interrupted by crisis.
More Than a School Bag
For many families in displacement settings, even basic school materials can be difficult to afford. A school bag becomes a symbol of belonging — a sign that a child is prepared, valued, and included.
But a solar school bag carries even greater significance.
With limited or inconsistent electricity in many communities, studying at night can be a challenge. The built-in solar light allows these children to read, revise, and complete assignments after sunset. It turns dark evenings into opportunities for learning.
It is not just a bag.
It is access.
It is dignity.
It is empowerment.
